Fellow Star Trekkies: I have a question about the Klingons?

I am a fan of Star Trek: TNG but the other night I was watching a rerun of the original series with Kirk, Spock, etc.. and it was an episode with Klingons in it and they look nothing like the ridged foreheaded Klingons of The Next Generation. What's up with that?
