What have we (United States) become?

Because of the actions of some minority groups (blacks, mexicans, whatever), I feel that a lot of Americans have become frustrated with the way they have behaved and don't look too kindly towards them, whether they admit it or not, and that has spawned a certain amount of racism towards them. But I'm not sure exactly what kind of nation we have become.
