Question about name change (transual)?

Last summer I tried to change my name, and the judge wouldn't let me, he said that he wouldn't let me change my name to a typically male name without me having had a change. I was wondering if you have any advice on what I should do. That wasn't legal of him to do. What if I was just a butch woman who wanted a mans name? What if I was a non op trans person. I mean he told me I have to get Surgery, to change my name. When they only things I read that I couldn't change my name to where initials, obscenities, celebrity names, names used to avoid the law, or benefit me under the law, an registered trademarks.
